The Raphael amphora is made of borosilicate glass, which has among its qualities that it is a harder and stronger material that requires more heat to work. The advantage of this material is definitely a glass with a cleaner, bubble-free crystal (typical of working with Murano glass).
The Master Glassmaker, uses the most classic technique to obtain a hollow object. Blowing constitutes one of the most revolutionary inventions in glassmaking technique and in this case he achieves it by means of a flame, which heats a borosilicate glass vial and, through blowing, allows the glass to open and be workable to give it the appropriate shape and size. Next, the piece is allowed to cool inside a furnace, which will slowly bring the object to room temperature. Floral decoration is done at the end of the process with an 18-karat pure gold enamel.
The Design
The design of this small amphora recalls the shape of classic earthenware amphorae and is inspired by the style of the glass pieces that are part of Museum collections, and has been reproduced in a smaller size but one that retains the beauty of the most beautiful and important collection pieces that are now part of the thousand-year history of Murano glass.
